New charges filed against man accused of planting pipe bombs near DNC, RNC headquarters

Brian J. Cole faces four federal charges, including attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction, for allegedly planting pipe bombs near political headquarters.

WASHINGTON — The man accused of planting pipe bombs outside of the Democratic and Republican National Committee headquarters on Jan. 5, 2021 is facing new charges. A federal grand jury indicted Brian J. Cole on four charges. 

The charges include interstate transportation of explosives, attempted use of explosives, attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction, and terrorism-related offense (D.C. code). Prosecutors say Cole transported and attempted to use two pipe bombs with
