Fairfax County school board considers longer summers, more 5-day weeks

Currently, there are 40 student holidays and only slightly more than half of the weeks in the year are five whole days long.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — Only 52% of weeks this academic year were a full five days in Fairfax County. Now, the school board is considering ways to remedy its calendar. 

Currently, Fairfax County Public Schools has one of the longest school years in the country, with this year being 303 days long. But students are only in school for full weeks for slightly more than half the year.
