Practices are beginning for Chandler Unified School District sports teams, but coaches are still receiving the same stipend they have for years.
Earlier this summer, CUSD Athletics Director Shawn Rustad argued to the Governing Board that the current stipend isn’t enough because the job has changed significantly.

Administration officials have said they may consider asking the Governing Board to increase those stipends this school year.
During a June 10 Governing Board study session, Rustad stopped short of saying coaches are underpaid, but he described a role that has evolved far beyond supervising practices and games.
