Prince George’s County may make Election Day a county holiday

Council member Wala Blegay introduced a bill that, if passed, would make the general election a county holiday each year.

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. — A new bill could make Election Day in Prince George’s County, Maryland, a holiday for the area.

Prince George’s County Councilmember Wala Blegay introduced the bill on Tuesday. If passed, the bill would give county employees the day off work to vote. 

Primary or special elections would not be a county holiday, according to the bill. 

Prince George’s County had a 66.3% voter turnout for the 2024
