A simple email sparked a 150-person Mahjong meetup at D.C.’s MLK Library, transforming rush hour into a place to stay, connect, and play.
WASHINGTON — On Tuesday afternoons in downtown D.C., there are two kinds of rush during rush hour. Outside, it’s the familiar crawl of traffic. Inside the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library, it’s the steady rhythm of tiles.
“I just love Mahjong,” one player said, smiling over the clatter.
At the heart of it all is Jeni Mak.
“I have a sense of disbelief,” she said.
