Virginia has two special elections taking place on Tuesday, April 21.
In one, voters throughout the Commonwealth are deciding on a proposed amendment to temporarily redraw Virginia’s congressional districts before the 2026 midterms. Right now, democrats hold six congressional seats and Republicans hold five. The proposed map changes have democrats favored to take 10 seats, with republicans taking one seat.
In the other special election, residents of Alexandria will be choosing between three candidates running to replace Kirk McPike on the City Council: Sandy Marks, Frank Fannon, Alison O’Connell.
