You got the idea to make this film from reading an incomplete manuscript. Is that right?
That’s right. I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek at the manuscript for Wildwood that Colin Meloy, the author, was still writing. I fell in love with it immediately. I absolutely adored it and knew I wanted to make this movie. The problem was that I didn’t know how.
How incomplete was it? How fleshed out was the story?
He knew exactly where it was going. At that time, there were about 130 pages of a book that would be more than 500 pages long.
