Jacksonville school cancels football season after shooting near game

Young Kids in Motion Academy announced Aug. 22 that it is canceling the remainder of its high school football season one week into the 2026 campaign.

The cancellation, announced on Instagram, came fewer than 24 hours after a double shooting near the site of YKIM’s Aug. 21 football season opener against Joshua Christian at The Legends Center and Gymnasium on Jacksonville’s Northside.

That incident, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said, left a 19-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the leg and a 20-year-old man
