Later on in the film, when things reach a point where Bear cannot handle Nikki’s unpredictable behavior anymore, there comes a moment when the real Nikki pleads with Bear to finish this entire thing so that she would not have to suffer any longer. But Bear takes that personally and refuses to end her suffering, and instead asks if it is that bad to be with him. He was never once the “nice guy”; he only pretended to be so until he got what he wished for (except it turned out to be a nightmare).
