The Maryland Department of Transportation recommends leaving from the D.C. area before 10 a.m. to miss the worst of the traffic.
WASHINGTON — AAA is projecting a record number of drivers for this Memorial Day weekend with the caveat that growth in travel demand is slowing because of the economic uncertainty and gas prices.
A spokesperson said 89% of travelers leaving from the D.C. area will be driving, which amounts to about 937,000 people. They said about 751,000 Marylanders will be driving for the weekend holiday.
