D.C. marks Small Business Week, spotlighting local shops and economic impact

More than 75,000 small businesses power the District’s economy.

WASHINGTON — Small Business Week is underway in the District, with leaders highlighting the impact of local businesses on the city’s economy.

D.C. is home to more than 75,000 small businesses, employing more than 230,000 people, according to the Mayor’s Office, that’s nearly half of the private sector workforce.

One of those businesses is Fia’s Fabulous Finds, a Northwest boutique offering a curated mix of new and gently used, upscale clothing.

Owner Fia Thomas said the shop is designed to make fashion more accessible
