WASHINGTON — Hundreds of people gathered Saturday night in Northeast Washington for a candlelight vigil honoring 14-year-old Tyale Coates, one of two children killed in a recent shooting.

Despite steady rain, mourners filled a block with candles and balloons, remembering Coates as a fun-loving teenager whose life was cut short.

Coates, an eighth grader at KIPP DC Valor Academy, was shot on the 700 block of Kenilworth Avenue while heading to a food
