Metro board unanimously approves train automation next step

Metro CEO Randy Clarke says the plan would enhance capacity and provide a higher level of reliability and safety.

WASHINGTON — On Thursday the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority Board took the next steps toward full automation on Metro trains. Automation would begin with Metro’s oldest line: The Red Line. But the unanimous vote drew the anger of Metro’s largest union for workers.
