52-year-old cold case solved: DC woman killed by her husband, Virginia police say

Shirley L. Washington, 33, of D.C. was found murdered in Virginia. 52 years later, her husband was found responsible for her murder, Virginia State Police said.

PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, Va. — A woman was killed by her husband 52 years ago, police said on Friday. 

Shirley Leona Washington, 33, of D.C., was found murdered in 1973 in Conway Robinson State Forest near Gainesville, Virginia, according to Virginia State Police (VSP). 

Police said that Shirley Washington’s husband, Clarence Edward Washington, also of D.C., was involved in her death. Clarence Washington was 68 when he died in 2013,
