Jamar Williams is turning the sky into a platform for communication. Through Promo Drone and its Starling X.2 platform, he is pioneering a new era of aerial messaging, delivering real-time information from above with clarity, speed, and impact. What began as an idea for live event marketing has evolved into a tool for public safety, brand engagement, and community connection.

How did you get started with this idea?

The concept was born from my passion for innovation and community engagement. I was originally focused on live event marketing when I realized drones could do more than entertain. They could deliver critical information visually and dynamically. When the pandemic hit, that vision expanded from advertising to public safety. The technology demonstrated that drones could not only engage audiences but also save lives by providing timely alerts when they matter most.

How would you describe your background and the journey that led you to become the founder of Promo Drone?

I have spent more than two decades blending business strategy, creative technology, and market innovation, and that experience naturally shaped my path to Promo Drone. Over the years, I have built partnerships with global organizations such as Draganfly Inc., Google, Mitsubishi Electric, Carahsoft, and the World Trade Center. Being recognized as “Business of the Year” by LA Tribune reinforced my commitment to empowering entrepreneurs, expanding workforce development, and using technology to uplift communities. Every skill, collaboration, and mission-driven project came together in the creation of Promo Drone.

Can you describe what your winning pitch highlighted?

Promo Drone is transforming communication in public spaces through the Starling X.2, a drone equipped with ultra-bright LED screens that deliver real-time digital messages from the sky. Our system addresses the challenge of reaching people quickly in open, high-traffic areas where traditional signage or emergency notifications fall short. From event organizers to public safety agencies, our technology enables rapid, wide-scale information delivery, turning the sky into a dynamic communication channel.

What was your preparation process for the BizCon $10K Pitch competition?

Preparation focused on clarity and storytelling. I simplified a complex technology concept into a human-centered narrative about connection and impact. I rehearsed the pitch, refined the financials and business model, and visualized how Promo Drone’s story would resonate with both investors and the communities we aim to serve. It was about showing not only what we built but why it matters.

How did it feel to be selected as the winner?

It was surreal and deeply validating. Competing among so many talented entrepreneurs underscored the importance of perseverance and belief. When Promo Drone was announced as the winner, I felt grateful and energized. It affirmed that our mission to elevate communication resonates with people and has the potential to make a real difference.

What excites you most about the future of Promo Drone?

We are entering a new phase of growth. Our roadmap includes U.S. manufacturing expansion, partnerships with event networks and public safety organizations, and the rollout of our Drone Advertising Network platform. We are also exploring international opportunities through programs such as Plug and Play China. Our goal is straightforward: to make drones a trusted, everyday tool for communication across the globe.

How will the prize money support your company?

The funds will fuel the next stage of growth. We will advance hardware production, expand demo flights to new partners and customers, and invest in training and workforce development through our Vets to Drones initiative, helping veterans become certified operators of the Starling X.2 technology.
