Suspect dead, bystander wounded in an encounter with Secret Service near White House

Secret Service shot and killed the suspect in the shooting where one bystander was hit. Media members also recalled hearing 20-30 gunshots. Here’s what we know.

WASHINGTON — The Secret Service says they shot and killed the suspect who they say pulled a gun from his bag and started firing near the White House. Secret Service Police also said one bystander was hit by the gunfire. 

On Saturday, CBS News reported that shots could be heard on the White House North Lawn around 6:04 p.m.
